Day Two, The London Office
As they drove through London, Ray was rather let down that they hadn't flown there from Teesside, in a private jet. Oscar was driving a rather posh saloon car but it wasn't quite the same as a flight there would have been. The car was just one from the department carpool, although not one the Government Car Service cars, these were just for the special department, that Oscar was a very small part of. Soon they arrived at the offices in Canary Wharf and Oscar led them in through the lower entrance in the basement car park.
Teddy Bradshaw, Oscars supervisor at the Canary Wharf office was there to meet them and soon got around to work. He started to question them all about how the Artifact worked but Ray would just say to give him the Artifact and he would show them. Teddy was not too keen to hand over the Artifact, he wanted to know all there was to know about it first. Ray looked at Dona, and then said that if they didn't just let them show how it worked, then the whole thing was off and they would just go home, it didn't bother them at all.
Oscar and Teddy went off into another room leaving Ray and Dona on their own. Dona said it was a nice trip down to London but this was not quite what she was expecting and Ray agreed with her. They agreed that if Oscar and Teddy came back with more questions and no access to the Artifact, then that was it, they would just go home.
In the other room, Oscar said to Teddy that he though that Ray and Dona had had enough and that they should maybe change their tack. It was getting late and they decided to ask Ray for his phone and put them up for the night in a nice place and Oscar would take them out for a meal. Teddy would then take the phone to where the Artifact was being kept and see if they could make it work over night.
Just Oscar went back in to see Ray and Dona and asked Ray if he could borrow his phone overnight, Ray agreed but said that he wanted the best newest one as a replacement if they broke it. Oscar then said that today's work was done and that if Ray gave him the phone, they could be on their way. Ray and Dona looked at each other and Oscar said to come on, that they were working for them now, lets go see their accommodation for tonight.
Rays phone was handed over to Teddy who latter passed it on to the crew that had been working on the Artifact.
It was only a short walk to the Four Seasons Hotel and they were soon settled in to their apartment, Oscar was staying next door to them for now. Ray and Dona still didn't know what to think although the apartment was very nice. Oscar had said he would be back in an hour and to be ready for a meal, so they didn't have time to talk, just get ready.
Soon Oscar knocked on the door and they were heading down to the restaurant. During the meal Oscar was telling them what was going to happen next (he already knew that the phone had made no difference and they needed Ray and Dona), tomorrow they were going over to a place near to the MI5 building. Where they would show some experts just how they could use the Artifact but for now it was free food and free drink.
Ray was moaning that there was no proper beer so Oscar said that he knew somewhere just a short walk, where the beer was very good. So off they went for a short walk back to the The Fine Line. Ray ordered a Sierra Nevada Torpedo and at 7.2%, it was just what he was looking for tonight. So the night was sorted and all three of them drank and talked over their time in France, tomorrow would be another day.
